We are Labutes Portuguese Import & Export Limited, a startup proudly based in Christchurch.

Founded by Portuguese emigrants, Labutes was born from a longing to bring a piece of home with us — the flavours, aromas, and timeless traditions that shape who we are.

Our name, Labutes, holds meaning at its core. It’s a heartfelt tribute to our hometown, Setúbal, and to the Portuguese word “labuta” — a term rooted in the Latin labor, symbolising dedication, perseverance, and the quiet strength behind every task well done. It reflects the unseen effort behind each harvest, every day of honest work, and the pride we take in doing things properly and with care.

Labutes exists to share with New Zealand not only quality products, but also a culture shaped by centuries of tradition and craftsmanship. We believe that true quality is born from commitment — and that commitment deserves to be celebrated. Whether in a flavour, a process, or a way of doing business, our goal is to represent that authenticity in everything we do.

We are currently building a network of trusted partnerships with the purpose of introducing and promoting premium Portuguese goods in New Zealand — a market we believe is ready to discover more of what Portugal has to offer.
